The Nuvolos Fellowship Program 2027
Keep your research re-runnable.
Become a Nuvolos Fellow.
Every result is a line. From first data, through analysis, to a finding others can build on. Too often that line breaks: environments rot, and work that can't be re-run has to be re-done. The Nuvolos Fellowship supports PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and research software engineers who keep the line unbroken, researchers whose work others can re-run, re-use and build on.
software engineers, who champion reproducibility and
scalable research practices.
Nuvolos Fellows receive twelve months of research infrastructure on Nuvolos inlcuding platform access, compute and storage for their project, with a list value of $5,000, plus mentoring, visibility and a community that stays with them for life. The award is in-kind: infrastructure for your project, not a personal stipend.
Applications close 6 November 2026
Why Apply for Nuvolos Fellowship
- $5,000 of research infrastructure. Twelve months of full Nuvolos access with compute and storage sized for your project, list value $5,000, in one governed workspace, with room to grow through your institution's own cluster or cloud when a run needs more.
- A record that outlives the project. Every environment you build is captured as a Snapshot: re-runnable by you, by your reviewers and by the people who build on your work — years later, not just at submission.
- Peer and customer network. Join the community of Nuvolos users at 65+ organisations, including universities and national banks, informal mentorship, real-world collaborations, people who have solved your setup problem before.
- Visibility and recognition. Present your work at conferences, Nuvolos webinars and community meetups; be featured on our website and channels; carry the title "Nuvolos Fellow" and a digital credential you can show on your CV, LinkedIn and grant applications.
- Learning that compounds. Exclusive online masterclasses and career clinics on reproducibility, open science and advanced computing.

What Fellows Say
“Using Nuvolos made it significantly easier to manage the computational environment for my dissertation work. It helped streamline my workflow, ensure full reproducibility, and focus on the research itself rather than setup issues. For any PhD student working with complex code and data, Nuvolos is a valuable asset.”
Eligibility
Who Can Apply
The Fellowship is open to:
- PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and research software engineers.
- Researchers at accredited universities and research institutions, in any country.
- Researchers in computational fields, AI and machine learning, bioinformatics, economics, physics, statistics, data-intensive science and their neighbours.
You must remain affiliated with an academic or research institution for the full term. Researchers at institutions that already use Nuvolos are welcome: the Fellowship is an award to your project, with its own workspace and resources.
You are a good fit if you
- Have a defined research or teaching project that twelve months of infrastructure can complete or move forward.
- Show work or intent in reproducible, shareable research, results others can re-run, re-use and build on.
- Will contribute something back to the community: a talk, a blog post or a shared, re-runnable artifact.
The Fellowship supports a project, not a lab. It is not general lab funding and cannot be used for commercial work.

- Shortlisting and interview. Shortlisted applicants are invited to a 30-minute personal interview, where we confirm that the project is eligible and that Nuvolos fits it. Before the interview you send a one-page project plan and a brief endorsement from your supervisor or PI. Templates are provided.
- Fellowship offer and onboarding. Accepted Fellows sign a short fellowship agreement, receive their workspace with the agreed resources, and join the Nuvolos Fellows network.

Here are answers to common questions about eligibility, evaluation, and benefits.
Q: Do I need to be a full-time PhD student?
A: No. We welcome PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and research software engineers.
Q: Is my university eligible for the Nuvolos PhD Fellowship Program?
A: Eligible universities are accredited research institutions that award research degrees to PhD students in computational sciences (or any adjacent fields): e.g. applied mathematics, statistics, econometrics, computational biology, physics, etc.
Q: How are applications evaluated?
A: We evaluate applications on the strength of the research proposal, the expected research impact, and student academic achievements. Strong research proposals involve innovative concepts relevant to the computational sciences that can benefit from the Nuvolos platform. Essay responses are evaluated in addition to application materials to determine an overall recommendation.
