Transform Your Workflow Management with the Nuvolos API

The Nuvolos API
Here at Nuvolos, the ultimate data science productivity platform, we are always developing new features to make life easier for anyone engaged in data-driven research. We are proud to announce the release of the Nuvolos API as the next step in this quest, offering unprecedented productivity and ease of use for workflow management, pipeline building, and dynamic scaling.
With Nuvolos, you could already run your favorite tools and working environment directly in the browser, without needing any additional coding, configuration, or any other unnecessary overhead. The Nuvolos API adds to this by allowing you to run and stop applications using API calls in a straightforward command line interface. You can access this CLI either at your leisure from your own system or directly in the application on the Nuvolos platform.
Needless to say, the Nuvolos API offers you all the scalability and flexibility in running applications as Nuvolos always does, so that you can use it to run tools at scale, with high CPU or high memory capacity, or using GPUs for your more intensive computational tasks.

Better workflow management than ever
Of course it's not just about being able to start and stop applications more easily using a command line. The real benefit of the Nuvolos API is in workflow management.
For many researchers, the frustrations and complexity of managing high-end computational workflows using a remote HPC system are all too familiar: lack of transparency, arcane scheduling batch jobs using SLURM, arguments with external IT staff about etiquette, queueing problems, and limited wall time.
As always, Nuvolos exists to do away with these barriers to entry and to make computational research productive and available for all, regardless of technological skill level. And even if you're not already familiar with these problems, it's easy to see how the Nuvolos API benefits you:
- Ease of use - the API allows automation and control using simple CLI commands, rather than having to set up complex batch scripts that easily fail and waste your time. Nuvolos also offers most tools directly in their best configurations, instead of you having to manage your libraries and modules yourself. This makes scalable computing easier for users at any level of IT expertise.
- Workflow management synergy - the Nuvolos API works particularly well when combined with easy, UI-based workflow managers like Apache Airflow (which conveniently works on Nuvolos straight out of the box!). You can simply use the Airflow interface to create and manage your pipelines or scheduled operations and then have the Nuvolos API carry them out. This saves lots of time and frustration on workflow setup. Of course other managers work too, like Nextflow, MLFlow, or any other one of your choosing.
- Streamlined control - By controlling when applications run, you can optimise resource usage, reducing costs and ensuring resources are available when they are needed most. Automated workflows reduce worry and simplify project management as well, especially in larger research settings. Moreover, Nuvolos has vastly more generous wall time limits and few other restrictions than your typical HPC cluster, giving you full control over your own operations.
- Transparency - Using the Nuvolos API, you get more predictable costs, removing much of the opacity of e.g. external HPC systems. Moreover, for additional insight you can deploy htop or nvtop (for GPUs), allowing you real-time monitoring of resource utilisation, offering unprecedented transparency compared to the alternatives.
